At St. Mary’s RC Primary school we believe that all children irrespective of gender, race, faith, disability and social status have the right to an education in which they can flourish and be the best that they can. As an inclusive school we provide the opportunities to acquire new skills, knowledge and understanding. This can be most effectively achieved through quality first teaching, in which stimulating and challenging activities are matched to the individual levels of ability of the children. Children are encouraged to be self -motivated; to adopt a positive attitude to learning and to take responsibility for the choices they make.
While the staff of St. Mary’ RC Primary School strive to provide these opportunities, we believe that a child’s education is not the sole responsibility of the school but a partnership between staff, parents and professionals. All parents play a valuable part in their child’s education. If your child continues to work at a level well below their peers or makes little progress, despite accessing interventions and quality teaching, they may be identified as having Special Educational Needs
All our classes are supported by teaching assistants and pupils are also offered small group work or catch up programmes (also referred to as Intervention Programmes) if needed. Some pupils are supported to develop their social skills or to improve their emotional well-being through work with our Learning Mentor.

What to do if I have a complaint:
All complaints will be taken seriously and treated with care and sensitivity.
If you have any comments or concerns please address them to the SENCo in the first instance. The majority of concerns expressed by parents are dealt with on an informal basis within the school itself. If you feel the situation isn’t resolved then the next step is to contact the Headteacher. If it cannot be resolved at this stage, the parent / carer is directed to the Chair of Governors. Information regarding the formal grievance process can be found here.

PACTS is Stockport’s official local parent carer forum run by parents for parents, carers, grandparents and family members who have a child/young person between the ages of 0 & 25 years with special educational needs & disabilities including any additional need.

Stockport Entitlement Framework
Over recent months we have Stockport SEND team has worked with parents, early years settings, schools, colleges and a range of professionals to develop Stockport’s Entitlement Framework. This document will help teachers and school leaders to further improve how they support children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities and help parents to understand the how the needs of their children should be met.

Network of SEND Champions
Our Network of SEND Champions is made up of friendly, passionate parents, carers and professionals all wanting to provide support and signposting for children & young people with SEND and their families.
Our Champions have developed a poster about how to get involved and listing useful Facebook groups offering support to families. Please share this poster with other parents/carers and professionals to encourage them to get involved.
We arrange regular meetings to allow parents/carers to network with each other and with professionals who can help signpost and provide support. We are also looking into resources and training that Champions will be able to access.
